Deputy Commissioner Fazilka, Amarpreeet Kaur Sandhu, along with Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Gurmeet Singh, today visited the border villages and inspected the relief measures being carried out at the embankments. The Deputy Commissioner informed that under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the district administration is working tirelessly to ensure timely supply of relief material to every affected family.

She stated that so far 6,196 ration kits have been distributed to families and 3,278 bags of cattle feed have been supplied for livestock. In addition, 1,118 quintals of green fodder and straw are being made available at relief camps as per requirement.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that a total of 21,562 people in the district have been affected by floods, out of which 2,422 persons have been safely evacuated from the marooned villages with the help of NDRF and Army teams. Presently, 1,304 persons are staying in relief camps, where the administration is providing langar and other essential facilities.

During their visit, the DC and SSP encouraged the teams engaged in relief work at Noor Shah embankment and interacted with the local residents. They later visited Dhani Bachan Singh village and Kawaan Wali Patan to take stock of the situation. Giving further details, Ms. Sandhu said that boats of the NDRF, Army, and district administration have been deployed to deliver essential supplies across the river to cut-off villages.

She emphasized that due to the rise in water level, only trained NDRF professionals are allowed to operate these boats. Therefore, anyone wishing to send supplies must coordinate with NDRF teams, as ordinary persons cannot manage boats in such deep waters.

It is noteworthy that at present, 2,73,000 cusecs of water is being released into the Sutlej River from Hussainiwala. On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner (General), Mr. Amandeep Singh Mavi, was also present
