With the aim of spreading awareness among masses about the menace of drugs and illicit trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised a street play at the historic Jallianwala Bagh on Friday.

The Deputy Director General (NW) and Joint Director of the department were especially present at the event. The main objective of the programme was to make people aware of the detrimental effects of drugs and its adverse impact on social relationships.

On this occasion, the senior NCB officer, while addressing the gathering, said that although we attained freedom from the Britishers, our people have become enslaved to the menace of drugs. The abuse of narcotic substances has become a serious global problem.

It not only harms health but also breaks families and weakens communities. Its effects are not limited to drug use alone, but lead to long-term physical, mental, and social damage. He urged the youth to abandon such habits, do something good for the nation, and stay away from drugs.

He also said, "people should understand the value of life and inspire others around them to stand against drugs." Through the street play presented by the students of Khalsa College, Amritsar, the artists showcased the destructive effects of drugs on society and family discord.

It was also highlighted how illegal drug trafficking is not only a threat to individual lives but also to the country’s security and economy. During the play, the audience was urged to stay away from drugs, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and immediately report any suspicious activities to the NCB or local administration.

The event saw large participation from city residents, students, and youth organisations. The street play was widely appreciated. The role of parents and teachers in keeping children and youth away from drugs was also emphasised.

NCB officials informed that on Saturday, a program against drugs is also scheduled to be organised at the Atari border, where people will also be made aware about the dangers of drugs, so that the problem can be eradicated from the roots.
