The Departments of Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Information Technology (IT), CEC-CGC Landran organised the 5th International Conference on Computational Methods in Science & Technology (ICCMST-2025) today.
The two-day event underscores CGC’s tireless efforts to foster interdisciplinary research and innovation while promoting fundamental and applied research to transfer R&D knowledge in broader areas of Science & Technology.
The conference witnessed the participation of over 300 participants on the first day. 15 eminent personalities from different premier technical institutions of the country and abroad would be engaging in enriching discussions and presentations, virtually, over the course of two days.
In addition to the conference proceedings, a Souvenir showcasing the research contributions was also released by the distinguished guests. The inaugural ceremony of the conference was graced by the presence of Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Padmakumar Nair, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala and Guest of Honour, Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra, Senior Director (IT)/ Scientist-F, National Informatics Centre, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Dr. Rajdeep Singh, Campus Director, CGC Landran, along with, Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, HoD, CSE, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, HoD, IT, CEC-CGC Landran, other Deans and Directors of CGC Landran, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and participants.
In his address, Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra, appreciated CGC for convening the conference. He said that ICCMST 2025 was not just an academic event but represented an ecosystem offering transfer of information, an exchange of ideas and innovative thinking.
Dr. Mishra emphasized that AI is an equalizer, which we must learn to use actively and dynamically to enhance productivity and outcomes. He added that while there are common concerns regarding AI replacing human roles, it is important to understand that AI will not replace people or jobs but has the potential to replace those who do not engage with it or use it.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Padmakumar Nair, commended CGC Landran for organizing the conference and began with an insightful reflection on the evolution of computing in the age of AI. We will be replaced only if we fail to use the most interesting AI tools available to us, he remarked, underscoring the rapid shift in technological demands.
He discussed how AI, Big Data, and IoT are replacing roles that involve extracting simple rules from large datasets and instead creating roles that require extracting insights from small, cognitively complex and ethically challenging data.
Future leaders, he noted, must be prepared to make quick, thoughtful, impactful decisions in such scenarios. Dr. Nair connected this challenge to the values of empathy and excellence, urging participants to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to innovation.
He described empathy as the mother of excellence and excellence as the mindset of doing things better than before, grounded in intellectual humility. Highlighting India’s strengths in critical domains like space research and nuclear safety, he encouraged students to dream differently, take bold steps and deviate from set patterns, as deviation is often the beginning of true innovation leading to national progress.
Additionally, eminent keynote speakers, including Dr. Davids, Imperial College London, UK, and Dr. Kalaivani Chellappan, Associate Professor, UKM, National University of Malaysia, also shared their insights via virtual mode on day one of the conference.
The proceedings of ICCMST-2025with 152 papers selected to be published in Scopus-indexed Series by Taylor & Francis (CRC Press), further enhancing the visibility and impact of the research outcomes. In four parallel technical sessions of day one, research scholars presented their papers before a panel of experts.
The sessions covered a diverse range of topics, including Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and recent advancements and challenges in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and Blockchain Technologies.
