The Department of Biotechnology at Chandigarh College of Technology (CCT), CGC Landran, in collaboration with Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI), Mohali, successfully concluded a comprehensive Summer Course titled, ‘Food Quality, Water Safety and Nanotechnology Applications in Wastewater Treatment.’

This intensive ten-day program, hosted across both CGC Landran and PBTI Mohali, offered a unique interdisciplinary learning experience for biotechnology students, combining theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on training. At CCT, students delved into the chemical and green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and their application in mitigating heavy metal toxicity in wastewater, a growing environmental concern.

These sessions were conducted by Dr. Abhinoy Kishore, Dr. Ranju Rathore, and Dr. Suksham Pal from the Department of Biotechnology, CCT, CGC Landran. Meanwhile, at PBTI, participants received expert training on food and water safety analysis, including Coliform and E. coli testing, and operation of high-end analytical instruments such as ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer), LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) and GC-FID (Gas Chromatography).

The real-world exposure to state-of-the-art lab facilities provided invaluable industry insight and skill-building opportunities. Engaging components like live demonstrations, interactive doubt-clearing sessions, quizzes, and lab-based challenges made the course dynamic and deeply enriching. Appreciating the initiative, Dr. Palki Sahib Kaur, Director-Principal, CCT, CGC Landran, said, “This summer course underlines that collaborations like this not only equip students with advanced scientific knowledge but also align them with the practical demands of the biotechnology industry.

At CCT, CGC Landran such initiatives help us to nurture industry-ready biotechnologists capable of addressing contemporary environmental and health challenges and contributing meaningfully to the society.”The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Ajit Dua, CEO, PBTI and Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, CCT.

Both emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in solving real-world challenges in public health and environmental sustainability. The course concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, symbolizing both achievement and the spirit of academic partnership.
