Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has launched an aggressive campaign against drugs titled “War Against Drugs”. In line with this, the district administration and police have jointly initiated Project ‘AAS’, which has emerged as a beacon of hope for many youth suffering from drug addiction.

As part of this initiative, an Outreach Camp was organized today at Jalalabad, where people voluntarily came forward to register themselves for de-addiction treatment.Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ms. Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu emphasized that drug addiction is a disease and it is curable.

She appealed to drug-affected individuals to come forward for treatment, stating that treatment is completely free of cost, the identity of patients remains confidential, and no unnecessary questioning is done to those who wish to return to the mainstream society. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh informed that due to the aggressive police action against drug traffickers, drug supply has significantly reduced.

He further added that police are now focusing on encouraging addicts to seek treatment so that they can reconnect with life and bring happiness back to their families. SSP Gurmeet Singh shared that 28 individuals registered on the spot during today's camp to begin their journey toward recovery.

These individuals will receive free treatment by medical experts from the health department. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kanwarjeet Singh Mann stated that drug abuse can be eradicated more effectively with collective societal efforts.

He urged the public to report any information related to drug activity to the police, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. A dedicated team of doctors was also present at the camp, where Dr. Eric addressed the gathering and explained the symptoms of addiction and the treatment process
