The Income Tax Department, Chandigarh, inaugurated the Taxpayer Hub on 2nd July 2025 at the Convention Hall, Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43, Chandigarh. The event was graced by Chief Guest Shri Manpreet Singh, renowned national hockey player and four-time Olympian, along with Smt. Jyoti Kumari, Principal Director General of Income Tax (Admin & TPS), New Delhi, and Smt. Amrapalli Das, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chandigarh.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Income Tax Department, officials from the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, and other dignitaries. The Taxpayer Hub will remain open to the general public from 2nd to 4th July 2025 at the same venue, providing a vibrant and interactive platform for tax-related education, services, and engagement.

Double Olympic medalist thanked the Income Tax Department for the opportunity to attend as Chief Guest. In his address, he called the event a vital platform to engage citizens and raise awareness, highlighting how taxpayers' contributions support key public services like sports, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He specifically credited improved sports facilities—including better equipment, training, and infrastructure—to the support of taxpayers, which helps athletes excel at national and international levels. He urged everyone to pay taxes honestly and expressed hope that the Taxpayer Hub would effectively educate and spread awareness among the public.

He also pledged to carry this message to his native place and raise awareness among his neighbors, encouraging others to do the same and contribute to fostering a culture of tax compliance. Principal Chief Commissioner Ms. Amrapalli Das stated that the initiative is more than an event—it is a platform for information, interaction, innovation, and inclusion.

Aimed at educating and empowering taxpayers, the Taxpayer Hub promotes voluntary compliance and showcases the Department’s taxpayer-friendly approach. Over three days, it will feature interactive kiosks, seminars, grievance redressal camps, engagement with stakeholders, school outreach for tax literacy, and the active presence of officers as facilitators, not enforcers.

The inauguration ceremony featured the launch of brochures highlighting taxpayer facilities and awareness initiatives. A short film titled “Thank You Taxpayers” was also released, dedicated to honoring the taxpayers of the North West Region.

The Taxpayer Hub included kiosks for grievance redressal and taxpayer information services. A variety of engaging activities, including Nukkad Natak and VR games, were conducted to connect with the public.

The Nukkad Natak creatively highlighted the importance of filing Income Tax Returns (ITR), claiming refunds, and the critical role of income tax in the nation’s development and progress. The Chief Guest actively participated in the VR games, making the experience even more interactive and memorable.

The activities proved to be both informative and engaging for the participants. This event marked a pioneering initiative of the Income Tax Department, organized under the aegis of the Directorate of Income Tax (Public Relations, Printing & Publication), with a focus on promoting awareness about Income Tax, taxpayer services, and voluntary compliance.
