Joint Parliamentary Committee deliberates on ‘One Nation, One Election’ with eminent citizens of Haryana

A meeting was organised with eminent citizens of Haryana, Punjab and  Chandigarh in New Chandigarh today during the study tour of the Joint Parliamentary Committee to brainstorm on the subject of ‘One Nation, One Election’. 

Social workers, educationists, public representatives, medical and sports personalities from various fields participated in it. All the participants presented their views after seriously reflecting on the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’.

The participants said ‘One Nation, One Election’ will save time, resources and money and will bring transparency and stability in the electoral process. The objective of this initiative is to make the parliamentary system more effective, transparent and practical by adopting the process of conducting elections of Lok Sabha and all state assemblies simultaneously.

The participants unanimously said ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a positive step. This will not only reduce the huge expenditure on frequent elections, but will also reduce unnecessary pressure on the administrative system and accelerate development work. 

This will also strengthen the economic, social and political stability of the country. Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee MP Sh. PP Chaudhary listened to the views of the participants seriously and said the committee will evaluate all the suggestions impartially. 

The objective of the committee is to prepare an inclusive and viable solution through extensive dialogue, which can make the administrative and electoral system of the country more efficient while protecting democratic values.

Joint Parliamentary Committee members Sh. Anurag Thakur, Sh. ET Mohammed Basheer, Sh. Chandan Chauhan, Sh. Manish Tewari, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Sh. T.M. Selvaganapathy, Ms. Kavita Patidar and Sh. Bhubaneswar Kalita also expressed their views in the meeting.

Eminent citizens from various areas of Haryana participated in the meeting, including Sh. Tejinder Walia, Prof. Rishi Pal,  Dr. Mahabir Singh Guddu, sportsperson Sh. Lakshya Sheoran, Shivani Kataria, Sh. Harvinder Singh, Dr. Sant Ram Deswal,  Sh. Subhash Digana, Dr. Manju Sharma and Sudesh Sharma.
