Yudhvir Sethi, senior BJP leader and MLA East Constituency, today chaired an important meeting with officials of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to review and expedite the beautification works in the heritage zone from City Chowk to Purani Mandi.

The meeting was held with a clear focus on preserving the cultural essence of the area while ensuring infrastructural upgrades under the Smart City initiative. Rmaesh Gupta (Kaka ji), Central Basic School Traders President, Joginder Mahajan, President Old Hospital Road Traders Association were also present.

The officials who were present included Suraj Parkash XEN JMC, Vivek Chopra AEE JSCL Civil, Vivek Pandoh I/c AEE JMC, Dilip Chouhan AEE Electrical JSCL, Narsing Dev JE Civil JSCL, Rakesh Kumar JE JMC, Contractor sh Lucky.

The MLA emphasized that this stretch, being the heart of old Jammu, holds immense historical and commercial importance, and therefore deserves a thoughtful transformation that blends tradition with modernity.

Sethi said, “The City Chowk to Purani Mandi corridor represents the soul of Jammu. Our aim is to not just renovate but rejuvenate this stretch with aesthetic lighting, uniform signage, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and improved drainage, all while maintaining its heritage character.”

He also called upon the officials to ensure active coordination with local stakeholders including shopkeepers, residents, and civil society so that their concerns and suggestions are included in the planning and execution phases.

Yudhvir Sethi appreciated the ongoing efforts by the Smart City team but urged faster execution to minimize inconvenience to the public. He stressed that beautification should go hand-in-hand with better civic amenities, cleanliness, and enhanced public spaces to give Jammu a truly modern and welcoming look.

The BJP leader reiterated his commitment to the development and beautification of Jammu, saying that such initiatives are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating vibrant urban spaces through the Smart City Mission.

Senior officials from Smart City Limited and JMC assured full cooperation and briefed the MLA Sethi about the upcoming phases of development, including façade improvement, lighting installations, and art-led street redesigns.
