In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a crime-free state under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with Tarn Taran Police, has arrested Rahul Singh, prime accused involved in the sensational broad daylight murder of Jagdeep Mola and recovered .30 calibre pistol along with three live cartridges from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

As per the information, Jagdeep Mola was shot dead in Tarn Taran by two bike-borne youth, when he was going somewhere on his Royal Enfield motorcycle, at around 2pm on March 5, 2025. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that arrested accused Rahul Singh was the main shooter, who was riding pillion on a Hero Splendor Motorcycle. Accused Rahul Singh has a known criminal background and is a key operative involved in several cases, he said.

The DGP said that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend his associates, who may be connected to this and other criminal activities. Sharing operation details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that the arrest followed a brief exchange of fire, when the police team under the supervision of AIG AGTF Sandeep Goel and led by Incharge AGTF SI Chander Mohan and SHO City Tarn Taran Ranjit Singh attempted to detain the accused at village Bath in Tarn Taran.

Rahul Singh opened fire at the police party in an attempt to escape, but was injured in retaliatory action and subsequently overpowered and arrested, he added. AIG Sandeep Goel said that police teams have recovered a .30 caliber pistol along with three live cartridges from his possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana said that investigations are underway to apprehend his associates linked to this murder and other criminal activities. The accused has been involved in multiple cases, and further breakthroughs are expected in the coming days, he added.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 48 dated 05/03/2025 has already been registered under sections 103 and 11 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station City Tarn Taran.
