A press conference was held today in Patiala by former Union Minister and Member of Parliament, Smt. Preneet Kaur, along with BJP Punjab Mahila Morcha President, Smt. Jai Inder Kaur along with district bjp patiala team to address the ongoing issue of water allocation under the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
Strongly condemning the recent decision to release 8,500 cusecs of additional water from the Bhakra Dam to the neighbouring state of Haryana, Preneet Kaur described it as an unjust encroachment on Punjab’s rightful share of water. Highlighting the alarming water scarcity in the state, she said, “Punjab is already grappling with a severe water crisis.
As many as 115 blocks have been declared as ‘dark zones’. We simply do not have even a single drop of extra water to spare for any other state.” She further pointed out that Haryana has already utilized 104% of its annual water share, and with the current low water levels in Bhakra and Pong Dams, meeting Haryana’s demand for additional 8,500 cusecs is neither feasible nor justifiable.
“This move may lead to a major water crisis for the farmers of Punjab in the coming days,” she warned. Criticizing the Aam Aadmi Party-led state government, Preneet Kaur remarked, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is busy issuing statements while failing to defend Punjab’s interests on the ground.
The Punjab government is now resorting to theatrics to cover up its administrative failures. The current situation is a direct result of their misgovernance.”Concluding the press conference, Preneet Kaur declared that the BJP Punjab stands firmly against this decision. “This order must be revoked immediately.
The BJP Punjab will never allow Punjab’s rights to be compromised and will stand as an unbreakable shield for the people of Punjab.
