Today marked a proud and momentous day for the Council of Lawyers, as Hon’ble Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri, Former Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court and Former Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was appointed as the Patron-in-Chief of the Council of Lawyers.
The Council of Lawyers will soon organize a special event at the Punjab and Haryana High Court to honor Justice Bahri. During this program, a meaningful discussion will be held on delivering justice to the underprivileged, with participation from many senior advocates. On this occasion, Advocate Vasu Ranjan Shandilya, Chairman of the Council of Lawyers, and Advocate Eashan Bhardwaj, President, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Justice Ritu Bahri. During the event, members of the Council engaged in detailed discussions on strengthening legal aid initiatives for the marginalized sections of society.
With the guidance and blessings of Justice Bahri, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to elevate its mission of justice and service to greater heights. Prominent advocates present on the occasion included Advocate Gautam Bhardwaj, Advocate Anisha Sharma, Advocate Lakshya Goyal, Advocate Harshit Nain, Advocate Jitendra Kansal, Advocate Saksham Dudeja, Advocate Amish Sharma, Advocate Brijesh, Advocate Jashan Chopra, Advocate Karan Bhandari, Advocate Sukhveer Gill, among several others.
During the meeting, the Council’s flagship program, “200 Hours in Indian Villages,” was also discussed. Advocate Vasu Ranjan Shandilya informed Justice Bahri that, under this initiative, 200 office bearers and members will visit various villages across the country each month to provide free legal aid. Justice Ritu Bahri highly appreciated this initiative and praised the Council’s efforts in taking legal services to the grassroots level.
Justice Bahri stated that she would extend all possible assistance by associating herself with the Council of Lawyers and emphasized that it had always been her goal to ensure access to justice for the poor and underprivileged. She held several important discussions with the young members of the Council and elaborated on the public interest decisions she had taken during her tenure as Chief Justice at the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Bahri also provided several new ideas and suggestions to the Council.
Justice Bahri emphasized that young lawyers are the true agents of change in society. She called upon young advocates to step forward with a spirit of service, stating that it is through their active participation that society can be strengthened and made more just.
