Haryana Police has intensified its road safety campaign and issued a total of 10,13,422 challans for traffic rule violations in the first quarter of 2025 (January 1 to March 31). This initiative by the police is a commendable step toward encouraging traffic rule compliance and reducing road accidents across the state.According to data received from Police Headquarters, out of the total challans issued, 5,63,485 were through CCTV cameras, 4,49,931 via e-challan machines, and only 6 challans were issued manually.This clearly indicates that Haryana Police is steadily moving toward making the challan system fully technology-driven.
Most Challans for Riding Without Helmet and Overspeeding
The highest number of challans were issued for riding without a helmet, totaling 2,82,020. This was followed by overspeeding cases at 1,97,661, absence of pollution control certificate at 1,32,267, lack of third-party insurance at 1,12,055, wrong parking at 1,26,012, and driving in the wrong direction at 1,09,673.
Strict Action Against Modified Silencers on Bullet Motorcycles
In 2025, Haryana Police also took strict action against the use of modified silencers that produce firecracker-like noises on Bullet motorcycles. From January to March 2025, 2,049 such vehicles were challaned. The modified silencers installed in these vehicles were seized and destroyed. These vehicles create loud noises that cause public inconvenience, and the sudden loud sounds pose a risk to nearby drivers, potentially leading to road accidents. Similarly, strict action was also taken against the use of black film on vehicle windows. From January to March 2025, 6,182 vehicles were challaned for this violation, resulting in a total fine of Rs. 6.18 crore.
Technology-Based Surveillance System
Haryana Police has strengthened its CCTV-based traffic monitoring system across the state. From national highways to city roads, vehicles violating traffic norms are being identified using traffic cameras. All challans are being sent to the concerned vehicle owners through digital platforms. From January to March 2025, 5,63,485 challans were issued to vehicle owners through online means.
Appeal by the Director General of Police
Director General of Police, Sh. Shatrujeet Kapur, has appealed to the public to follow traffic rules. He stated that this action by Haryana Police aims to ensure traffic rule compliance. “Our objective is not to punish anyone, but to control road accidents and raise awareness about traffic rules. Every life is precious to us, and Haryana Police is committed to safeguarding it,” he said. He added, “We want people to follow rules not out of fear, but out of responsibility and understanding. Following traffic rules can save not just your life but also the lives of others.”
