The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chandigarh today launched a scathing attack on Congress in a press conference regarding the National Herald scam. Senior BJP leaders Sanjay Tandon, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, and State President Jitender Pal Malhotra accused the Gandhi family of turning the legacy of the freedom struggle into personal property.

The BJP also announced that the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will stage a protest at Congress Bhavan tomorrow at 3 PM. Regarding the National Herald scam, the BJP leaders stated that it was part of a conspiracy by Congress to seize assets worth thousands of crores.

They explained that the National Herald newspaper, established in 1937, was never the private property of the Nehru family but was a voice of the freedom fighters. However, when its publication ceased in 2008, Congress provided ₹90 crore, which came from the party funds.

The BJP leaders further claimed that Congress set up a company called ‘Young Indian’, in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held 38% shares each. This company was transferred a ₹90 crore loan for just ₹50 lakh, after which the assets of National Herald came under the control of the Gandhi family.

These assets included prime locations in Delhi as well as properties in Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal, and Patna, worth thousands of crores. The BJP leaders raised questions about Congress claiming ‘Young Indian’ to be a charitable institution, but there has been no public evidence of any charitable activities undertaken by it.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has investigated this matter and questioned several senior leaders. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are currently out on bail, and they have received no relief from the Supreme Court.

State President Jitender Pal Malhotra stated that in protest against this scam, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha will hold a siege at Congress Bhavan on 18th April. He said, “It is time to hold the Gandhi family accountable and reveal the truth to the people of the country.”

The BJP also condemned the language used by Congress to intimidate the Enforcement Directorate, calling it an affront to the judicial process. The party firmly stated that it will continue to demand accountability from the Gandhi family and bring the truth to light.
