The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly opposed the implementation of house tax in Chandigarh. On Thursday, BJP State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, BJP councilors, and senior leaders met with the Chief Secretary and demanded an immediate rollback of the tax.
BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, stating that this tax imposes an unnecessary financial burden on the people and is completely unacceptable.
“Policies That Burden the Public Will Not Be Tolerated” – BJP
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla stated that “the people of Chandigarh are already struggling with inflation. Imposing a house tax on them is completely unjust. The BJP stands firmly with the people and will fight against this anti-public tax at all levels.”
BJP State President Jitendra Pal Malhotra warned the administration, saying, “Chandigarh citizens are already receiving several benefits from the central government. In such a situation, imposing a new tax through the municipal corporation is unfair. If the administration does not withdraw this tax immediately, the BJP will take to the streets and launch a major protest.”
Municipal Councilors Also Expressed Strong Opposition
BJP councilors also strongly opposed the decision, stating that “the role of the municipal corporation is to protect public interests, not to impose additional burdens on them. The house tax is completely unjustified, and the BJP will fight against it at every level.”
BJP’s Three Key Demands:
The house tax imposed on the people of Chandigarh must be withdrawn immediately.
The administration should focus on the development and welfare of the people instead of burdening them financially.
If the tax is not withdrawn, the BJP will launch a strong protest on the streets.
BJP leaders have made it clear that if the administration does not take immediate action, the party will mobilize public support and organize large-scale demonstrations. The BJP is fully committed to protecting the rights and interests of the people.
