CU Punjab Concludes 13th Intramural & Annual Sports Meet with Grand Closing Ceremony

The 13th Intramural Sports and Annual Sports Meet of the Central University of Punjab, for the session 2024-2025, concluded on Friday with a grand closing ceremony. The programme under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, was graced by Shri Amarjit Mehta, President, Punjab Cricket Association.

This grand sporting event, that kick-started from 23rd September 2024 onwards, featured a total of 17 different Games and Events including sports like football, Volleyball, Cricket, Kabaddi alongside indigenous games such as Tug of War, Gilli Danda, and Seven stone. 

The event also included track and field games such as 100m Sprint, 4X50m Relay Race, 4X100m Relay Race, 200m Race, Long Jump, Shot put etc, and some Games for Staff Wards, including the 25 m Sprint, Bips Race, Tunnel Race, 100m sprint, and Hurdle Race

While presenting programme report during the closing ceremony, Dr. Sanjeev Mander, Head, Dept. of Physical Education, stated that during this event a total of 800 athletes participated in the events as mentioned above, divided into four categories: students (both men and women), Teaching Staff (both men and women), Non-teaching Staff (both men and women), and 5 age categories for staff wards: 5-7years, 8-10 years, 13- 15 year, 15-17 years.

The special attraction of the closing ceremony was Tug of War Finals, 100m Sprint finals and 4X100m Relay Race finals, wherein students exhibited their sportsmanship. While addressing the participants, Shri Amarjit Mehta, President, Punjab Cricket Association, applauded youngsters for their enthusiastic participation in this event and encouraged them to put consistent efforts aiming to represent their state and country at National and International sporting events. 

He stated that education without sports is incomplete as it not only helps to keep us physically fit but also improves our mental fitness. He emphasized on wholesome development of personality through active participation in games and sports.

The sports meet concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, wherein Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, along with university officials awarded the Overall Champion Trophy for the session 2024-25 to the Department of Physical Education with 243 points. 

The Best Student-Athlete Male award bagged by Mr. Harish Chaubey, Best Student Athlete Female Miss. Upashana Pal, Best Teaching Athlete Female Dr. Yashi Srivastava, Best Teaching Athlete Male Dr. Deepak Pandey, Best Non -Teaching Athlete Female Miss Sunita Rani, Best Non -Teaching-Athlete Male Mr. Narayan Bahadur Sunar.

Towards the end of the event, organizers expressed gratitude to the faculty and students for making this program a huge success.
