As part of the ongoing Road Safety Month, Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan inaugurated a road safety awareness program at Warehouse Jammu to promote responsible driving and minimize accidents.

The Transport Commissioner was accompanied by Regional Transport Officer Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra, ARTOs, officials from MVD and representatives from several Transport unions. Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Commissioner emphasized that road safety is not just a one-day affair but a lifelong commitment.

He stated, "Every day should be observed as Road Safety Day and   following traffic rules, staying vigilant, and promoting responsible driving should be part of our daily routine, not just during special campaigns." he added.

Highlighting the significance of adopting Traffic related disciplines he strongly urged people to avoid drunk driving, emphasizing that alcohol impairs judgment, slows reflexes, and significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents.

He highlighted that strict action will be taken against those caught violating rules. He further reiterated the dangers of over speeding, rash driving, and breaking traffic rules, stressing that a few minutes of impatience on the road can cost precious lives.

The Transport Commissioner said that a detailed analysis of accident trends would be conducted at the end of the year to check the effectiveness  and impact of these campaigns. He emphasized on pedestrian safety, lane discipline, and traffic signal adherence, urging citizens to set an example by adopting good traffic related habits.

Earlier, the Transport Commissioner also paid a surprise visit to RTO Jammu premises to review the functioning of the office. He directed the concerned officials to deliver all services within the stipulated timeline.

He also asked concerned officials to display the notified fee for each service at prominent places within premises so that applicants can come to know about notified fees and not fall prey to any middlemen.
