The centrally-sponsored MGNREGA scheme is proving highly beneficial for daily wage earners in Moga district. Under the dynamic leadership of the district administration, the scheme aims to provide 15.14 lakh workdays of employment to eligible rural residents during the 2024-25 financial year, of which 6.95 lakh workdays have already been provided.

Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vishesh Sarangal reviewed the progress of the scheme during a meeting held at his office today. He noted that 67.87% of the targeted workdays have been achieved. However, expressing dissatisfaction with the current progress, he directed Gram Rozgar Sahayaks to make every effort to achieve 100% of the target.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Sarangal emphasized that strict action would be taken against Gram Rozgar Sahayaks failing to meet the set targets. He instructed Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jagwinderjit Singh Grewal to withhold increments of negligent staff and terminate those who consistently underperform, ensuring fresh recruitment to fill the vacancies.

He also called for detailed progress reports on individual Gram Rozgar Sahayaks. The Deputy Commissioner further instructed that timely payment to workers engaged under MGNREGA must be ensured.

Projects currently in progress under the scheme should be completed on a mission mode, and detailed updates were sought on pending works. The administration is committed to maximizing the benefits of MGNREGA for the people of Moga district.

It is worth mentioning that MGNREGA legally guarantees 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to adult members of rural households who are willing to do unskilled manual labor and seek work under the scheme.
