The Excise Department has seized 175 boxes of English Liquor (IMFL) worth around Rs 5 lakh being smuggled into Punjab from Chandigarh. Giving information about this, Excise Officer Ropar Range Shekhar said that following the directives of Excise Commissioner, Punjab IAS Varun Ruzam and Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Patiala Zone, Udaideep Singh Sidhu, the Excise Department Rupnagar and Rupnagar Police jointly conducted the operation and recovered a 175 boxes of IMFL worth Rs. 5 lakh, which were being smuggled from Chandigarh to Punjab.

He further said that acting on tip off this operation was conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Ropar Range, Mr. Ashok Chalotra and Excise Inspector, Ropar Jorawar Singh, Ropar Police on the intervening night of October 26 and 27.  He was also part of this special operation.

He said that during checking of vehicles near Behrampur, Rupnagar, a vehicle No. HP-31-E-2931 was intercepted in which 175 cartons of IMLF marked for sale in Chandigarh only were concealed in the vehicle. He further said that this IMLF was bottled by Shivalik Beverages Private Limited, Chandigarh. In this regard, two persons have been arrested from the spot and case has been registered under the Excise Act.
