Honourable minister of State for Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, visited Department of Apparel and Textile Technology of the Guru Nanak Dev University, here today. Dr. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Varinder Kaur, Head, Department of Apparel and Textile Technology (DATT) of the University welcomed the minister.
He visited the department’s textile and various Laboratories included, wet processing lab, physical textile testing, computer colour matching, garment production and garment design laboratories. Minister interacted well with the students and discussed about their problems. Dr. Sucharita Arora elaborated on the functioning of the Textile Industrial Service Centre set up in the department.
Later, the head of the department briefed him about the achievements of the university and the department. She also updated about the progress of the NTTM (National Technical Textile Mission) project and proposed for centre of excellence for wool in the university campus.
The minister interacted with the faculty of the department and emphasized the importance of collaboration with other national institutes like NIFT in the area of fashion designing in enhancing the exposure of the students. The team from the KPMG handling the Amritsar technical textile cluster interacted with the minister and updated their progress. The minister appreciated the efforts of the university and department in the field of technical textiles.
Minister also visited the research laboratories of Neurophysiology, Motion Analysis, Human Performance, Sports Psychology, Exercise Physiotherapy, Kinanthropometry, Exercise Physiology, Isotonic and VO2 calculation of the MYAS GNDU Department of Sports Sciences and Medicine. Prof. Palwinder Singh also honoured Minister with Memento on behalf of the University on this occasion.
