Launching‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ fortnight at Mohali, MLA Kulwant Singh exhorts the residents to make it a permanent part of life to promote healthy living standards. He said that the pledge administered to observe the fortnight from September 17 to October 2, asserts to be part of cleanliness 100 hours a year and add another 100 contributors to it, in line with that we should take care of cleanliness in our surroundings like a responsible citizen.
While flagging off an awareness March of students to promote the campaign at ground level, he said that these students would act as ambassadors of Swachhata. He also planted a sapling to mark the launch of the campaign.
He further said that the campaign has a 15-day activity chart in rural as well as urban areas focusing on solid waste, liquid waste management, enhanced green cover, and cleanliness of public places like community centres, schools, religious places, water works etc. Exhorting the general public to be part of the campaign, he said that we need to make this campaign transform into a mass movement.
The officers present at the launch ceremony included Superintendent Engineer Anil Kumar, Executive Engineer Ramandeep Singh from the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation who has been running the campaign and other prominent persons.
