Rupnagar police solved the theft of mobile phones worth Rs 35 lakh from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk of the city by arresting the 2 persons. Giving details in a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police, Rupnagar IPS Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that on the mid-night of August 24, 2024, unknown persons broke the shutters of Hitanshi Mobile Care shop in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk of Rupnagar city and stole all mobile phones from the shop. 

He disclosed that in this incident, 42 new mobiles and 95 old mobiles were stolen from the shop by 2 persons and they also stole 1 laptop. SSP said that a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of SP (Inv.) Rupinder Kaur Saran, under which DSP Harpinder Kaur Gill and SHO police station City Rupnagar Pawan Kumar have thoroughly investigated this big theft incident following a technical methodology. 

Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana further said that with a thorough investigation by the police team, the accused Rajinder Singh alias Raju and Karanjit Singh, residents of village Kotla Nihang, district Rupnagar, were arrested and the motorcycle used for the theft along with 42 new mobile phones, 94 old mobiles, 1 laptop, 1 i20 car, a hydraulic cutter, a plasma cutter, country made pistol 32 bore, 6 live cartridges and a saw were recovered. 

He said that after the police received a report of the incident, a case number 172 dated 25 August 2024 A/D 305, 331(4) BNS at Police Station City Rupnagar was registered against unknown persons. Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that the arrested persons are being produced before the court for getting police remand. On the other hand, there is a possibility that more cases of theft will be revealed during interrogations. 

SSP said that the campaign against anti-social elements in Rupnagar district will continue in the same manner and strict action will be taken against any big/small person who violates the law and order. Rupnagar police is committed to protect the lives and property of the people.
