The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Wednesday, has apprehended Gurpreet Singh, Gramin Rozgar Sewak, of MGNERGA scheme and working as Secretary in village Marrar, district Faridkot, red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000. An official spokesperson for the VB revealed that this arrest was made following a complaint lodged by Shindar Singh, a resident of village Marrar in Faridkot district who provides labour under this scheme.
He informed that the complainant has alleged to VB that the said accused had demanded Rs 5,000 in lieu of providing daily wage jobs to the labour contractor for the works under MGNERGA scheme. The complainant had recorded the conversation with the said accused while demanding the bribe money and provided the same to the VB as an evidence.
The spokesperson informed that after conducting a preliminary inquiry, the VB Ferozepur range laid a trap, during which the said accused Gurpreet Singh was apprehended while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case has been registered against the said accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Ferozepur range.
The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress.
