The People's Democratic Party (PDP) held a public convention in Chandgam village of South Kashmir's Pulwama district as part of the election campaign. While addressing a gathering in Chandgam, Pulwama,the Party President Mehbooba Mufti alleged that the independent candidates running under the Jamaat-e-Islami name are not truly supported by the organization.
She claimed that the actual members of Jamaat-e-Islami are imprisoned or facing trials."If the government wants Jamaat-e-Islami to participate in the democratic process, it should lift the ban on the organization" said Mehbooba Mufti
Mehbooba visited Pulwama to support the PDP candidate Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, who is contesting for the Pulwama assembly seat.Mehbooba emphasized that the PDP is the only political party in Jammu and Kashmir that has consistently worked for the welfare and development of the Jammu and Kashmir.
She also criticized the authorities, claiming that while the families of jailed youths are not allowed to visit them, certain individuals in jail are running for assembly elections and receiving special privileges. Hundreds of people including men, women and youth participated in this Mega Rally held at Pulwama.
