The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its campaign against corruption in the state, has registered a bribery case against Gurjit Singh, Tax Collector, posted in Block Development and Panchayats Office (BDPO), Khuhian Sarwar in Fazilka district for demanding a bribe of Rs. 50,000. Giving this information here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered against the said Tax Collector based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Kumar, a resident of village Diwan Khera, in tehsil Abohar on the Chief Minister's Anti-corruption Action Line.
He further informed that during the enquiry of this online complaint, it was found that the complainant has been running a building material shop in Khuhian Sarvar town and had provided construction materials on different occasions to six village panchayats amounting to Rs 8,62,989. He further revealed that above said Tax Collector had demanded Rs 1,20,000 to clear the said pending bills form the complainant and had taken Rs 50,000 in this regard.
Subsequently, based on this investigative report, it was proved that the said accused employee had accepted Rs 50,000 bribe to clear the aforementioned pending bills. In this regard a corruption case against Guljit Singh, Tax Collector has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Ferozepur range.
Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
