Vice-President of the Youth National Conference of Jammu Province, Rajeshwer Singh, stated on Sunday that the Union Home Ministry's decision to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019's transaction of business rules to increase the lieutenant governor's (LG) powers is nothing more than an anti-democratic action.

He vehemently opposed this move by the central government. According to Singh, the central government's goal is to use the LG to exert control over the UT administration. He argued that this decision aims to undermine Jammu and Kashmir's elected government.

Singh further stated that since the elected Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir would merely be an instrument of the LG, this decision represents the disempowerment of the region's elected leadership. He added that it seems like the center is trying to kill the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and has started a form of dictatorship in the region.

Singh noted that Jammu and Kashmir was the only princely state that was never under British paramountcy when the whole of India was under British control. He further added that the BJP knows it is likely to lose the forthcoming state assembly elections badly, and out of fairness, the center has taken this action, attempting once again to murder democracy in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh accused the center of making a mockery of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
