The Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi celebrated its Annual Award Ceremony with great enthusiasm and honor Punjab Kala Bhavan, Chandigarh The prestigious event was graced by Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, as the Chief Guest who felicitated distinguished authors and poets in Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu languages alongwith by Sh. Rajeev Verma, Adviser to the Administrator, as the Guest of Honour.
In his address, Sh.Purohit expressed his happiness and pride in being part of this annual celebration organized by the Chandigarh Sahitya Academy. He extended his hearty congratulations and thanks to the creators, writers, and scholars who were honored at the event.
He emphasized the significance of words and language, stating that they are among the most important inventions in human history. "If language is the carrier of traditions and culture, then literature is the carrier of the thought tradition of society," he remarked.
He further highlighted the profound relationship between an awakened society and its extensive literature, stating, "No nation becomes rich only with wealth, but also with its thoughts and traditions. It also becomes rich with its literature and creation."
Governor praised India’s rich tradition of literature, referencing the Vedic literature, epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana, Kalidasa's Shakuntalam and Meghdoot, Panchtantra, Jataka tales, and Chanakya's Arthashastra. He noted that India has always been blessed with a strong literary tradition of writers, poets, intellectuals, and thinkers.
Reflecting on the role of literature, Sh. Purohit mentioned, "Literature is the mirror of society, but it is also the lamp of society, showing it the path." He acknowledged the decisive role writers have played in building society, influencing both the Bhakti movement and India’s freedom movement through their verses and writings.
He reminded everyone of the power of the pen, quoting, “The Pen is mightier than the Sword,” and emphasized the duty of society to respect these literary warriors. He praised the Chandigarh Sahitya Academy for their dedication in enriching the literary environment of the city and for honoring writers who have devoted their lives to literature.
Governor also touched upon the responsibility that comes with the freedom of expression, urging writers to use their freedom responsibly and to avoid hurting anyone's faith or sentiments. He encouraged young writers to continue experimenting with new subjects and writing on contemporary issues, while promoting intellectual discussions rather than controversy.
Chandigarh Sahitya Academy has been committed to fostering the literary environment of the city. Their efforts in organizing symposiums, seminars, kavi sammelans, and workshops, as well as providing grants to authors for book publishing, were highly appreciated by the Governor.

चंडीगढ़ साहित्य अकादमी ने वार्षिक पुरस्कार समारोह में साहित्यिक उत्कृष्टता को किया सम्मानित। चंडीगढ़, 30 जून, 2024 चंडीगढ़ साहित्य अकादमी ने अपना वार्षिक पुरस्कार समारोह बड़े उत्साह और सम्मान के साथ पंजाब कला भवन, चंडीगढ़ में मनाया इस प्रतिष्ठित समारोह में पंजाब के राज्यपाल और यूटी चंडीगढ़ के प्रशासक श्री बनवारीलाल पुरोहित मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित हुए, जिन्होंने हिंदी, अंग्रेजी, पंजाबी और उर्दू भाषाओं के प्रतिष्ठित लेखकों और कवियों को सम्मानित किया, साथ ही प्रशासक के सलाहकार श्री राजीव वर्मा भी विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में उपस्थित रहे ।
अपने संबोधन में श्री पुरोहित ने चंडीगढ़ साहित्य अकादमी द्वारा आयोजित इस वार्षिक समारोह का हिस्सा बनने पर अपनी खुशी और गर्व व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने इस कार्यक्रम में सम्मानित होने वाले रचनाकारों, लेखकों और विद्वानों को हार्दिक बधाई और धन्यवाद दिया। उन्होंने शब्दों और भाषा के महत्व पर जोर देते हुए कहा कि वे मानव इतिहास के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण आविष्कारों में से हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि "भाषा अगर परंपराओं और संस्कृति की वाहक है, तो साहित्य समाज की विचार परंपरा का वाहक है।"
उन्होंने आगे कहा कि एक जागृत समाज और उसके व्यापक साहित्य के बीच गहरा संबंध है। "कोई भी राष्ट्र केवल धन से समृद्ध नहीं होता, बल्कि अपने विचारों और परंपराओं से भी समृद्ध होता है। वह अपने साहित्य और सृजन से भी समृद्ध होता है। " राज्यपाल ने वैदिक साहित्य, महाभारत और रामायण जैसे महाकाव्यों, कालिदास के शाकुंतलम और मेघदूत, पंचतंत्र, जातक कथाओं और चाणक्य के अर्थशास्त्र का हवाला देते हुए भारत की साहित्य की समृद्ध परंपरा की प्रशंसा की।
उन्होंने कहा कि भारत को हमेशा से लेखकों, कवियों, बुद्धिजीवियों और विचारकों की एक मजबूत साहित्यिक परंपरा का आशीर्वाद मिला है। साहित्य की भूमिका पर विचार करते हुए श्री पुरोहित ने कहा कि "साहित्य समाज का दर्पण है, लेकिन यह समाज का दीपक भी है, जो उसे रास्ता दिखाता है।" उन्होंने कहा कि लेखकों ने समाज के निर्माण में निर्णायक भूमिका निभाई है, जिन्होंने अपने छंदों और लेखन के माध्यम से भक्ति आंदोलन और भारत के स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन दोनों को प्रभावित किया है।
उन्होंने कलम की शक्ति की याद दिलाते हुए कहा कि कलम तलवार से भी अधिक शक्तिशाली होती है और साहित्यिक योद्धाओं का सम्मान करना समाज का कर्तव्य होता है। उन्होंने शहर के साहित्यिक वातावरण को समृद्ध बनाने और साहित्य के लिए अपना जीवन समर्पित करने वाले लेखकों को सम्मानित करने के लिए चंडीगढ़ साहित्य अकादमी की सराहना की।
राज्यपाल ने अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता के साथ आने वाली जिम्मेदारी पर भी बात की और लेखकों से अपनी स्वतंत्रता का जिम्मेदारी से उपयोग करने और किसी की आस्था या भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाने से बचने का आग्रह किया और युवा लेखकों को नए विषयों के साथ प्रयोग करते रहने और समकालीन मुद्दों पर लिखते रहने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया, साथ ही विवाद के बजाय बौद्धिक चर्चा को बढ़ावा दिया। चंडीगढ़ साहित्य अकादमी शहर के साहित्यिक वातावरण को बढ़ावा देने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।
संगोष्ठी, सेमिनार, कवि सम्मेलन और कार्यशालाओं के आयोजन के साथ-साथ पुस्तक प्रकाशन के लिए लेखकों को अनुदान प्रदान करने के उनके प्रयासों की राज्यपाल ने बहुत सराहना की। कार्यक्रम के दौरान उपस्थित अन्य पदाधिकारियों में श्री हरि कल्लिक्कट, सचिव संस्कृति विभाग चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन , श्री नितीश सिंगला, निदेशक संस्कृति विभाग,चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ,श्री माधव कौशिक, अध्यक्ष साहित्य अकादमी, चंडीगढ़ और अकादमी के अन्य पदाधिकारी शामिल थे।
