Busting a fake call centre running from Phase 8-B, Industrial Area, Mohali, the Mohali Police have arrested a total of 37 accused including 25 males and 12 females who were scamming foreign nationals. Divulging the details, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, District, Dr Sandeep Garg said that as many as 45 laptops with 45 headphone mic, 59 mobile handsets (23 used for office while 36 used as personal) and a black coloured Mercedes-Benz car (DL-08-CAK 5520) have been recovered from the accused.
Disclosing the Modus Operandi of the Gang, SSP further said that they used to send fake e-mails to the account holders of foreign people citing that the transaction was to be done from their PayPal account and they could contact the customer care number in this regard. When those people make a call on the fake number given by the accused, the accused used to trick the gullible people into saying that if they want to save the transaction, then they should buy gift cards of their amount and after getting the code of the same gift card they were cheated.
The SSP further said that on getting a tip-off regarding the functioning of this fake call centre under the garb of an IT Company Webtap Private Limited, First Floor, Kailash Tower, Plot No. E-177, Phase 8-B, Industrial Area, Mohali, a team under the supervision of DSP (City) Mohit Aggarwal was constituted comprising members— Inspector Sukhbir Singh and SHO Abhishek Sharma, Incharge, Industrial Area, Phase 8-B, Mohali.
The Police teams unearthed the fake call centre and arrested 37 accused persons including Gujarat based Kingpins Kaivin Patel and Parteek Dudhat. He said that most of the accused belong to North Eastern states. A case under sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the IPC has been registered against the accused.

ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਾਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਦੀ ਆੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਅ ਪਾਲ ਅਕਾਊਂਟ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਟ੍ਰਾਂਜ਼ੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਭੋਲੇ-ਭਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀਆਂ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗਰੋਹ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾਫਾਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ 37 ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਵਿਖੇ ਅੱਜ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਡਾ. ਸੰਦੀਪ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਗਰਗ, ਆਈ.ਪੀ.ਐਸ, ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਐਸ.ਏ.ਐਸ ਨਗਰ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਅਗਰਵਾਲ, ਪੀ.ਪੀ.ਐਸ, ਉਪ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ (ਸ਼ਹਿਰੀ), ਐਸ.ਏ.ਐਸ ਨਗਰ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਹੇਠ ਇੰਸ: ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਥਾਣੇਦਾਰ ਅਭੀਸ਼ੇਕ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਇੰਚ: ਇੰਡ: ਏਰੀਆ ਫੇਜ਼ 8-ਬੀ, ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਈ.ਟੀ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦੀ ਆੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੇ ਇੱਕ ਕਾਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾਫਾਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਨੰਬਰ: 111 ਮਿਤੀ 25.06.2024 ਅ/ਧ 406,420, 120 ਬੀ, ਭ:ਦ 01, ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਦਰਜ ਕਰ ਕੇ 37 (25 ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਅਤੇ 12 ਮਹਿਲਾ) ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਡਾ. ਗਰਗ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਮਿਤੀ 25.06.2023 ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖਬਰ ਖਾਸ ਨੇ ਇਤਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਪਲਾਟ ਨੰਬਰ: ਈ-177, ਕੈਲਾਸ਼ ਟਾਵਰ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਮੰਜ਼ਿਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਵੈੱਬਟੈਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ, ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਦੀ ਆੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਅ ਪਾਲ ਅਕਾਊਂਟ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਟਰਾਜ਼ੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ 'ਤੇ ਭੋਲੇ ਭਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਠੱਗੀਆਂ ਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਕੇਸ ਰਜਿਸਟਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਵਿਨ ਪਟੇਲ, ਪਰਤੀਕ ਦੁਧੱਤ ਸਮੇਤ 35 ਹੋਰ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ । ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਮੁਖੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਕਤ ਪਲਾਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਵੈੱਬਟੈਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਚਲਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ। ਜਿਸਦੀ ਆੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਇਹ ਫਰਜ਼ੀ ਕਾਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਚਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਅਕਾਊਂਟ ਦੇ ਖਾਤਾ ਧਾਰਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਅਲੀ ਈ.ਮੇਲ ਭੇਜਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਅ ਪਾਲ ਅਕਾਊਂਟ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਟਰਾਂਜ਼ੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਹੋਣੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਕਸਟਮਰ ਕੇਅਰ ਦੇ ਨੰਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਪੰਰਕ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਅਲੀ ਨੰਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭੋਲੇ ਭਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਟਰਾਂਜੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਬਚਾਉਣੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਕਮ ਦੇ ਗਿਫਟ ਕਾਰਡ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਗਿਫਟ ਕਾਰਡ ਦਾ ਕੋਡ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਠੱਗੀ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ 45 ਲੈਪਟਾਪ, ਹੈਡਫੋਨ ਮਾਈਕ 45, ਮੋਬਾਈਲ 59 (ਦਫ਼ਤਰੀ 23, ਪਰਸਨਲ 36) ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਮਰਸਡੀਜ਼ ਕਾਰ ਰੰਗ ਕਾਲਾ ਨੰਬਰ (ਡੀਐੱਲ-08-ਸੀਏਕੇ 5520) ਬਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
