Senior Superintendent of Police, Rupnagar Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, while giving information during the press conference, said that Rupnagar police have arrested a person who demanded ransom of Rs 2 crore from the former Chief Minister, Punjab through a mobile call. Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that a video had gone viral on social media in which the former Chief Minister, Punjab Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi had said that a person called him and demanded the ransom of Rs. 2 crore and then also sent a message in which he threatened to kill him if he could not pay the money.
Senior Superintendent of Police disclosed that on the basis of the video, a case No. 22 wide dated 02.03.2024 U/S 387 and 506 was registered at Police Station City Morinda. He said that SP (Investigation) Ms. Rupinder Kaur Saran and DSP, Sub-Division Morinda Mr. Gurdeep Singh have done the technical and scientific investigation of this case.
After that involvement of the Deepak Shrimant Kabale who is resident of Sambhav Apartments, Shivaji Nagar, Vakola Mumbai (Maharashtra) was found and he was named in the case. A team of SHO city Morinda and CIA in charge had arrested a person from Maharashtra on 15th March 2024.
Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that a laptop and two mobile phones were seized from the arrested person. After presenting this person before the court and police remand of three days has been taken. Investigation of the case is going on as to which other persons he has made threatening calls and demanded ransom.

ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਰੂਪਨਗਰ ਸ. ਗੁਲਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੁਰਾਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ. ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਬਾਇਲ ਫੋਨ ਉਤੇ ਧਮਕੀ ਭਰੀ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਕੇ 2 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸ. ਗੁਲਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੁਰਾਨਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਉਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੀਡਿਓ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸ. ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਨੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਮਕੀ ਭਰੀ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਮੈਸਜ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ 2 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਾ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਨੋ ਮਾਰਨ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਖੁਲਾਸਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵੀਡਿਓ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਥਾਣਾ ਸਿਟੀ ਮੋਰਿੰਡਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੁੱਕਦਮਾ ਨੰਬਰ 22 ਮਿਤੀ 02.03.2024 ਅ/ਧ 387, 506 ਤਹਿਤ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮੁਕਦਮੇ ਦੀ ਤਫਤੀਸ਼ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ (ਜਾਂਚ) ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਕੋਰ ਸਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਪ-ਕਪਤਾਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ, ਸਬ-ਡਵੀਜਨ ਮੋਰਿੰਡਾ ਸ. ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਹੇਠ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਿਕ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਧਮਕੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੀਪਕ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮੰਤ ਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਸੰਭਵ ਅਪਾਰਟਮੈਟ, ਸ਼ਿਵਾਜੀ ਨਗਰ ਵਕੋਲਾ ਮੁੰਬਈ (ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ) ਦੀ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਉਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਕਦਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਇਸ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਇੰਸਪੈਕਟਰ, ਮੁੱਖ ਅਫਸਰ ਥਾਂਣਾ ਸਿਟੀ ਮੋਰਿੰਡਾ ਸੁਨੀਲ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਚਾਰਜ਼ ਸੀ.ਆਈ.ਏ. ਰੂਪਨਗਰ ਦੀ ਟੀਮ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਤੋਂ 15 ਮਾਰਚ 2024 ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸ. ਗੁਲਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੁਰਾਨਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਫਤਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਲੈਪਟਾਪ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਮੋਬਾਇਲ ਫੋਨ ਬ੍ਰਾਮਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ 3 ਦਿਨ ਦਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਰਿਮਾਂਡ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਪੁੱਛ-ਗਿੱਛ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਹੜੇ-ਕਿਹੜੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਮਕੀ ਭਰੀ ਕਾਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਫਿਰੌਤੀ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
