Dedicated to the sacrifice of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Anti-Leprosy Day was commemorated at the Leprosy Ashram in Rupnagar. Under the guidance of Dr. Manu Viz, the Civil Surgeon of Roopnagar, the health department team celebrated Anti-Leprosy Day with the theme 'Beat Leprosy.'

On this occasion, Parmjeet Kaur stated that leprosy, caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, spreads from one infected person to another. She informed about the symptoms of leprosy and the deformities resulting from this disease, emphasizing that with early detection and treatment, the physical deformities of the affected body parts do not occur rapidly.

If a person has a light pinkish spot on their body, leprosy could be possible. MDT (Multi-Drug Therapy) effectively cures this disease, and early treatment can prevent physical deformities. On this occasion, the needy present at the Leprosy Ashram were provided with medicines and other essential items.
