In the latest cinematic offering from director Sriram Raghavan, titled 'Merry Christmas,' Katrina Kaif shines triumphantly while Vijay Sethupathi excels in this gripping whodunit. The story unfolds on a fateful Christmas Eve, where two strangers cross paths, setting the stage for a night that transforms from delirious romance to a harrowing nightmare.

The film kicks off with a unique juxtaposition of two sets of mixer grinders, symbolizing two distinct recipes—one involving tablets ground into powder and the other a blend of red chillies and lentils for dosa batter. Against the backdrop of Christmas Eve in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), the city radiates festive cheer, creating an atmosphere of euphoria.

Albert (Vijay Sethupathi), an architect returning home after seven years, becomes the central figure. His reunion is marked by nostalgic encounters, including a neighbor sharing homemade wine and anecdotes about Albert's late mother. Albert's chance interaction with Maria (Katrina Kaif) on the bustling streets leads to an unexpected companionship, adding a touch of merriment to his Christmas.

However, the festive joy takes a dark turn when a shocking discovery of Maria's husband, Jerome (Luke Kenny), with a gunshot wound, disrupts the idyllic evening. Director Sriram Raghavan skillfully weaves a tale of suspense and mystery, utilizing twists and turns that keep the audience engaged.

As Albert and Maria attempt to navigate the aftermath, the plot thickens with the disappearance of Jerome's body, Inspector Vinay Pathak's investigation, and Sanjay Kapoor's opportunistic character entering the fray. Raghavan's mastery in crafting suspenseful narratives, reminiscent of Hitchcock, is evident throughout the film.

The nearly two-hour-long experience evokes the classic Hitchcockian tone, with Raghavan revealing much through subtle nuances. The film successfully captures the essence of 80s Bombay, thanks to Madhu Neelakandan's impressive cinematography. Pritam's musical score and Daniel B George's background music serve as crucial elements, seamlessly blending with the dramatic sequences.

Katrina Kaif delivers a standout performance with her understated yet enigmatic portrayal of Maria, while Vijay Sethupathi is convincingly cast as a murderer with a troubled past. Sanjay Kapoor's portrayal of an opportunist adds another layer to the narrative.

'Merry Christmas' is a must-watch for those seeking a thrilling whodunit with unexpected twists. Director Sriram Raghavan, known for 'Andhadhun,' once again leaves the audience with intrigue, mystery, and lingering questions.
