District Administration Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has appealed to the residents to report drug trafficking/victims on WhatsApp No. 80541-00112 being monitored by the Senior Superintendent of Police. Chairing a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre Mechanism Committee, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Viraj Shyamkaran Tidke said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to taking stern action against the Drug Traffickers as well as ensuring the treatment of victims under section 64-A.

He said that the Narco Coordination Centre Mechanism is aimed to discuss and review the progress and strategy in coordination with various departments in curbing drugs besides raising awareness at a mass level. He said that district police in collaboration with the District Administration have launched the above-mentioned helpline for pouring in information against drug traffickers as well as victims. 

The victims would be helped in rehabilitation following a proper treatment of addiction. So far, two major awareness programmes have been conducted, one at Mohali on the 14th of December and another in Derabassi’s Triwedi Camp yesterday. He said that to keep a close tab on habit-forming drugs, 80 inspections of drug stores have been conducted. Similarly, 113 Samples of medicines have been conducted to maintain quality as well as other checks. 

Apart from that 07 licenses were placed under suspension that were found violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Besides, 51 cases have been launched/are being filed in various courts. The ADC instructed the State GST Department to be vigilant on the billing of bulk quantities and supplies besides hefty transactions of medicines.

The School Education Department, Youth Services and Nehru Yuva Kendra officials were asked to spread maximum awareness among the students who are prone to the danger of addiction due to their tender age. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayat was asked to clear the hiding points like bushes in coordination with the Forest Department from the villages. Police officials requested to check the parcels delivered by Swiggy/Zomato from one location to another randomly to rule out transportation of any suspicious substance.

The officers who attended the meeting included SP (Traffic and Industries) H S Mann, SDM Derabassi Himanshu Gupta, SDM Mohali Chandrajyoti Singh, Tehsildar Kharar Jaswinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Mahesh Kumar, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Parvinder Pal Kaur, District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr Ginni Duggal and representatives of other departments.
