Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab Mahila Morcha President Jai Inder Kaur today visited village Rongla of Patiala district and interacted with local residents who had been battling with rapid drug abuse in and around their village. Later the senior BJP Punjab leader took the panchayat of the village along with her to meet the SSP.

Talking to the media after meeting with the SSP, Jai Inder Kaur informed, "Led by Sarpanch Rani ji, the villagers had called me to their village today to help them in their fight against the growing drug problem. The Panchayat and the local ladies informed me that the village has seen a surge in illegal trade of drugs in the last couple of years and that unfortunately the youth of the village are falling into this swamp of drugs."

The BJP leader further said, "It is saddening to see that the drug abuse problem is so rampant in our villages and it is now our duty to help them get rid of it. So, the gram panchayat also took an initiative today to pass a resolution against any member of the village who is caught indulging in or helping someone in drug trade, then they will be fined Rs. 1 lakh rupees by the panchayat and will be handed over to the police for strict action."

Jai Inder Kaur further said, "We also met the Patiala SSP Varun Sharma ji to bring to his notice the rising drug problem in village Rongla. The villagers also urged the SSP to ensure strict regular patrolling and setting up permanent Nakka's outside the village to catch the drug peddlers. The SSP has assured us to fulfill the demands of the villagers and that they will take strict action against the people who are caught."

The BJP Mahila Morcha President said, "The rising drug issue in Punjab is not just a state issue, it has become a national issue and the BJP led Central government is very serious about it. Even when BSF extended it's jurisdiction to 50km in border areas, the opposition had opposed it first but Captain Amarinder Singh had taken a stand to support the move keeping in mind the national security and the youth of Punjab."

Jai Inder Kaur was accompanied by Sarpanch Rani w/o Sitar Mohammad, Former Patiala Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu, Patiala Mahila Morcha President Manisha Uppal, Mandal President Gurdhian Singh, Gurbhajan Singh, Varinder Gupta and the entire Panchayat of village Rongla.
