In continuation to its drive against the gangsters and anti-social elements, the SAS Nagar Police got a major breakthrough with the arrest of two accomplices of gangster Sukhpreet Singh alias Budha.Divulging the details, the SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said that CIA Mohali had laid a naka at Balongi area to check the suspicious persons when two motorcycle-borne youths, who made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the police party.
Those arrested have been identified as Ankit @ Ankit Rana r/o Sultanpur PS Chandimandir and Harpreet Singh @ Makhan r/o Safedipur, PS Sadar Patiala. During the search of both, two pistols of .32 Bore along with 06 live cartridges were recovered from Ankit, while a pistol of .32 Bore along with 04 live cartridges was recovered from Harpreet Singh. A case u/s 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at PS Balongi for further investigation.
SSP further said that from the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that both were here to commit a crime. On further interrogation, the accused persons confessed that the Splendor Motorcycle, on which they were travelling, was used in a shoot-out on Sahil in Derabassi on December 06, 2023.
The motorcycle belongs to the already arrested accused in the Derabassi case identified as Rajwinder Singh Sunny and has been registered in the name of his mother. Harpreet Singh also confessed his involvement in that firing incident and succeeded in fleeing after the firing. The SSP said that further investigation is going on that may procure more information about the criminal antecedents of both.
