A meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) today (07/12/2023) addressed the issue of illegal mining within the district. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Executive Engineer from the Mining Department, representatives from the Pollution Control Board, and Sub Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars of Shri Anandpur Shaib and Nangal.

The DC emphasized the need to combat illegal mining and instructed the following measures:

1. Increased Police Deployment: Additional police personnel to be deployed in sensitive areas, along interstate and inter-district borders, and at checkpoints to deter and apprehend illegal mining activities.

2. Regular Monitoring: The Mining Department will conduct regular inspections of stone crushers and public mining sites to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent inconvenience to the public.

3. Technological Enhancements: CCTV cameras and night-vision enabled drones to be deployed at strategic locations to monitor truck movements and track illegal mining activity.

4. Joint Action: The DC stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between the Mining Department, District Administration, Pollution Control Board, and Police Department to effectively curb illegal mining.

5. Strict Legal Action: The DC warned that any individual or department found involved in illegal mining will face strict legal consequences. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen enforcement, improve surveillance, and enhance collaboration to effectively address the issue of illegal mining and ensure environmental protection in Rupnagar.
