Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua under the patronage of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu organized a sponsored one day farmers’ training programme on Safe and Judicious Use of Pesticides by adopting integrated pest management practices. The camp was held in collaboration with HIL (India) Limited, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and was attended by more than 500 farmers.

The main objective behind organizing this programme was to educate farmers about safe and judicious use of pesticides, so that they can know about the ill-effects of pesticides on human health and soil. DDC Chairman, Kathua Col. Mahan Singh, was the chief Guest of the programme. 

He elaborated the schemes told by PM and advocated the farmers to get maximum benefit from them. He hoped that this programme on safe and judicious use of pesticides will have fruitful outcomes which will go a long way in improving the farmers and soil health.Vice Chairman DDC, Kathua, Raghunandan Singh, who was the guest of Honour on the occasion advised the farmers to buy pesticides from some authentic centers and use them under the technical guidance of agriculture experts and scientists.

The programme led by Dr. Anamika Jamwal, Senior Scientist (Plant Protection) welcomed the farmers at KVK-Kathua and told them about the background of the programme. She educated the farmers about the pest management for harnessing the maximum production and returns. She briefed upon the Integrated Pest Management practices. She also emphasized round the year mushroom cultivation for enhancing farmer’s income.

Chairman DKFO Mukesh, co-ordinated the overall programme and welcomed all the dignitaries, guests and HIL resource persons. He explained the motto behind conducting this programme and briefed about the HIL (India) Ltd.

CMD, HIL (India) Ltd.  Kuldeep Singh, explained about HIL background and his functions. He also talked about e-NAM and safe use of agrochemicals. He also briefed the farmers about key agricultural inputs like seeds, pesticides, mosquito nets.
