Amidst the challenges being posed in the era of globalization and modernity, Harjeet Singh Grewal, Chairman, Punjabi Cultural Council, has emphasized on the importance and promotion of three “Gaggas” (3G), namely Gurmukhi, Gurbani and Gatka, as the main pillars of the rich ancient heritage of Punjab so that the generations to come could wconnected to the original Punjabi inheritance.

He presented this concept while addressing the 8th World Punjabi Conference (WPC) held in Brampton, Toronto. In his impressive presentation, state awardee Grewal highlighted the importance of Gurmukhi as an enduring and proud symbol of unity, unique identity and rich heritage for the global Punjabi community in the present era. 

He said apart from the spiritual role, Gurmukhi has played an important role in the preservation, propagation and education of Gurbani, Gursikhi, literature, poetry, knowledge and intellectualism from generation to generation.

Talking about the rich heritage of Sikh martial art, President of International Sikh Martial Arts Council and President of World Gatka Federation, Grewal said Gatka has great historical significance as it represents the spirit of bravery, courage and valor of Punjabis. 

He elaborated that this almost 600 years old martial art is an integral part of Punjabi culture which symbolizes the great, sacred and indomitable spirit of the community across the globe.Gatka promoter Grewal in his address highlighted the need to preserve the three main pillars (Gurmukhi, Gurbani and Gatka) in view of the challenges of globalization and the loss of Punjabi language, cultural values and traditions among the young generation across the globe. 

He emphasized that in this era of technology and advancement, it is very important to propagate the mother tongue and heritage to keep the roots of the community strong and to keep the identity of Gursikhi, Punjabi and Punjabiyat alive forever.

Advocating the promotion of three "gaggas", the Sikh intellectual officer said Gurmukhi, Gurbani and Gatka are inextricably linked in Punjabi culture. Adopting these priceless cultural and spiritual treasures is not only to preserve and promote our heritage, but also to inculcate a sense of belonging and pride among Punjabis world over.

Emphasizing on the importance of promoting the rich cultural heritage of Punjab, he said the traditional martial art is rooted in strengthening the fundamentals of Punjabi culture and inculcate values like courage, bravery, perseverance and respect for others among the people.

Grewal urged the diaspora to collectively ensure that these cherished cultural elements continue to shine in the present and inspire future generations. He appreciated the WPC organizers Gian Singh Kang, Kamaljeet Singh Lalli, Prof. Jagir Singh Kahlon, Chamkaur Singh Machhike and Irvinder Singh Ahluwalia for providing an important platform for intellectual exchange, educational initiatives, cultural activities and Gatka through this conference.
