The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, SF Hamid today addressed students from different educational institutions of the district at Sports Stadium Anantnag to mark the ‘World Environment Day’.Earlier, the students presented a memorandum to the DC outlining various suggestions for mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving the environment.

Students were seen holding placards with appeals to people to save the environment. They advocated strong reliance on 3Rs to reduce pressure on natural resources, called for all people to come together in addressing environmental issues and called on people to bring about behavioral change to save the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the presentation of the memorandum sends a strong message towards preservation of the environment. He said that the present generation has to take serious steps for conservation of the environment or the future generations will have to pay for their mistakes.

He said that awareness among the younger generation regarding the need for conservation of environment and preserving our natural resources is an evidence of the behavioral change being driven through various preservation measures being run by the government.

He appealed to the general public to pledge to save the environment on this World Environment Day because as the theme for this year’s environment day suggests, we have only one earth and we must ensure that every effort is made to preserve its fragile ecology.

Similar event was held at GHSS Rani Bagh, Sub Division levels and Tehsil levels where the students pledged to save the environment and make every conscious effort towards preserving earth and not to waste resources.
