‘We are being supplied with contaminated water’

The people residing in Government flats at Magarmal Bagh area of summer Capital have alleged they are being supplied with contaminated drinking water.While talking to GNS, they said: “We the inhabitants have fallen ill as contaminated water is being supplied to us. The water tanks which are on top floor are filled with mud. Besides, the top floor, where water tanks have been kept, is extremely polluted.”An employee in Civil Secretariat, told GNS: “The dead wood, old stock and other material has been kept on the floor near water tanks since last 20-years,” he said, adding: “There are insects and rats. There is high risk that they might go inside the drinking water tanks which threatens our life.”The authorities pay no heed to our repeated requests to clear the water tanks as well as remove the trash lying for years, the inhabitants alleged.The people also alleged that sub-standard material is being used in the repair works of the bathrooms and kitchens of the quarters. “No official is inspecting and checking what they are using. They are actually looting government and no official is bothered,” they said. (GNS)
