One of the most awaited projects which were delayed due to the pandemic has now again hit the headlines. It is none other than the biopic of Indian-Hungarian painter Amrita Sher-Gil. The project which is slated to be made by Mira Nair will soon be going on the floors.
If reports are to be believed then pre-production on this film has started and the filmmaker Mira Nair has approached some intriguing and talented actors for the same. The filmmaker plans to rope in Naseeruddin Shah, Vicky Kaushal, and Jim Sarbh to play the pivotal roles. Yes, you read that right. This pack of talents will be seen in the upcoming biopic of Amrita Sher-Gil.

Moreover, it has also been said that the biographical drama is titled ‘Amri’. The film’s name is based on the nickname of the beautiful painter Amrita. Fans are excited as they can’t wait to witness the life of Amrita Sher-Gil on big screens. They are eager to know the lead actress who will be portraying the role of the painter.
The release date of the same has yet not been released. But if we go by the reports, ‘Amri’ will be released in mid 2024. Till then we can wait and enjoy further information regarding the film.

Who was Amrita Sher-Gil?
Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil has been called "one of the greatest avant-gardes women artists of the early 20th century”. She has started following her passion at a very young age. Sher-Gil started formal lessons at the age of eight and received her first recognition at the age of 19, for her oil painting.
Amrita had explored her entire life to different countries like Turkey, France, and India, emanating heavily from pre colonial Indian art styles as well as contemporary culture. She is still considered as one of the prominent painters. Amongst all the women Indian painters her paintings were the most expensive ones. She has been nicknamed as ‘Indian Frido Kahlo’. She died of illness at the age of 28.
