It has been recently reported that the twitter account of one of the leading news sources of Punjabi language, BBC News Punjabi has been blocked in India by Twitter on request of the central government. The account and the content of the account is now not accessible to the users of India.

The twitter has displayed a message on the twitter handle of the BBC News Punjabi for the withheld of the account which reads as, "account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand."

No exact reasons for the same have been revealed yet but it has come amid the crackdown of Khalistani sympathiser Amritpal Singh. Earlier, six YouTube channels were blocked for promoting their pro-khalistani views. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that these channels posting their content in Punjabi language were running from abroad and were trying to create a crisis in the border state. So the central government requested Twitter to ban the accounts of these channels.
