Ludhiana Police Commissionerate arrest chain snatcher within hours of incident

Jeweller also held for buying stolen items

Hours after an incident of chain snatching in the Gurdwara Nanak Parkash area, the Commissionerate Police Ludhiana on Friday arrested a snatcher and recovered the gold chain from the accused. 

Besides, the police have also held a goldsmith for buying the stolen item from the accused.The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh of New Azad Nagar and jeweller Narinder Pal of Golden Avenue, Dugri.

Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Commissioner of Police Ludhiana said that Sapna Dhawan of New Guru Angad Dev Colony near Shimlapuri had complained that an unidentified Activa scooter-borne had snatched her gold chain weighing 12-gm following which a case under section 379-B of IPC was registered in Shimlapuri Police Station. 

He said that cops tracked down the accused, held Gurpreet Singh in this case, and seized the scooter used in the crime.Sidhu said that the cops had also booked jeweller Narinder Pal for buying a gold chain from accused Gurpreet. He said that Narinder Pal had also been arrested in this case and had no previous criminal history.

The Commissioner of Police said that special emphasis was being laid to eliminate this street crime from Ludhiana and said police have worked out a detailed strategy to catch snatchers. He said that every snatching case was now being dealt with seriously and teams led by senior officers worked overnight to crack promptly.
