World Down Syndrome Day observed in Ramban

To mark World Down Syndrome Day, District Administration Ramban and the Social Welfare Department organised a seminar and awareness programme in Ramban under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The programme was presided over by District Social Welfare Officer, Rahul Gupta. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kamal Zadu, Dr Ejaz Ahmed, Dr Sushant Mahajan and Dr Tajamul gave detailed information about Down Syndrome to PRI representatives and the locals besides ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

Dr Ejaz discussed the symptoms of Down Syndrome while Dr Tajamul emphasised the importance of physiotherapy and counselling for patients. DSWO Gupta spoke about ensuring a dignified comfortable and indiscriminate life for individuals with Down Syndrome which is the aim of observing this day worldwide. 

A girl suspected to have Down Syndrome was also examined by doctors at the event. At the end all took a pledge to not discriminate against or neglect individuals with Down Syndrome and to provide them with medical support and career opportunities. The Department of AYUSH also distributed free immuno-boosting medicines to the audience.
