Lovely Professional University (LPU) organised ‘International Women's Day 2023’ at its campus on this year’s theme, ‘DigitALL- Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality'. Head priestess of international ‘Kinnar Akhada’ and social activist transgender, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, graced the occasion as ‘Guest of Honour."

Observed on parity and equity for all, a man, woman, trans-man, and trans-woman were seen on the single podium of the main dais. Interacting with LPU students and staff members, Laxmi awakened them all: "Ever live up to your true self.

I love the feminine within me and uphold the same as a proud woman. As I love myself, my true being, the first thing of my day begins with makeup and womanish adornments. I want all to learn to love and respect womanhood, and women should never burn their ideas, desires, or talents.

They should come forward and break social taboos, if any. Life teaches us many things: have courage before the intimidating world around, step ahead, and be a product of your learnings. Education is a must."

Here, Laxmi shared how at a time she was a transgender rights activist, Bharatanatyam dancer, Bollywood actress, reality TV star, choreographer, motivational speaker, and more. In fact, she has emerged as an unlikely icon.

She answered individual questions raised and affirmed all equality in society. Greeting the adorable guest, LPU Chancellor Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal upheld that, in contrast to social taboos, there is no fault with a transgender child as it’s an uncontrollable biological phenomenon.

He also hailed that India is already having technological equality for all in its society. Out of CSR activity and advancing gender equality at the campus, Dr Mittal announced 20 full scholarships for transgenders in its first phase.

On this occasion, LPU Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Founder-Mrs Bector’s Food Specialties Ltd., Rajni Bector; Founder Director of Bluepine Foods, Aditi Madan; Co-Founder & CEO of WYN Studio, Souniya Khurana; Founder Director of Glam Studios, Sadiya Naseem; and, Laxmi’s husband, a bodybuilder who is a trans man, Aryan Pasha were also on the main dais.

The elite women discussed the influential roles to be played by women. In fact, the theme this year is aimed at serving as a reminder of the immense potential that digital transformation holds for accelerating gender equality and women’s empowerment.

It is expected to bring together technologists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and gender equality activists to improve access for all to digital tools in equivalence. The United Nations sees that bringing women into technology results in more creative solutions and promotes gender equality.
