As per directions of Sh. Gaurav Yadav, IPS, DGP Punjab to make Punjab a safe and secure state, SBS Nagar Police under the supervision of Sh. Kaustubh Sharma IPS, IGP Ludhiana Range and Sh. Bhagirath Singh Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police have achieved great success by arresting 03 members of the gang involved in making extortion calls to a Nawanshahr based businessman for ransom.
While addressing a press conference, Sh. Bhagirath Singh Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, SBS Nagar gave information that a famous businessman of Nawanshahr City complained to the Police that he is receiving ransom calls from various virtual numbers.
On the basis of which an FIR No. 175 dated 12-10-2022 u/s 387 IPC Police Station City Nawanshahr was registered against unknown persons and investigation initiated thereof and teams of CIA staff SBS Nagar and Police Station City Nawanshahr constituted to crack the case in the command of Dr. Mukesh Kumar, PPS, Superintendent of Police Investigation and Sh. Harshpreet Singh, PPS, DSP (D) SBS Nagar.
During investigation, with the help of technical and scientific tools, three accused namely Gurpreet Singh alias Pita age about 32 yrs. s/o Malkit Singh r/o Chahlan PS Kathgarh, Rajesh Kumar alias Happy age about 24 yrs. s/o Gurmail Chand r/o Bholewal presently residing at ward no. 02 Back side Tahli Sahib Gurudwara Nawanshahr and Rakesh Kumar Sau alias Rakesh age about 27 yrs. s/o Ram Kishan Sau Naya Pura Bus Stand Sanjay colony Kota PS Naya Pura District Kota Rajasthan have been arrested in this case.
During preliminary interrogation of these accused, Gurpreet Singh disclosed that he was in contact with Lakhtej Singh alias Lucky Johal s/o Nachattar Singh r/o Dhalle ke Distt. Moga presently residing in Manila (Philippines) and on his instructions Gurpreet Singh collected the information of said businessman through Nawanshahr based another accused Rajesh Kumar @ Happy who conducted recce of complainant on his motorcycle number PB32-S-2957 (Discover) and further sent this information to Lakhtej Singh.
The said motorcycle has also been recovered from accused Rajesh Kumar @ Happy used by him to conduct recce of complainant. On the basis of this information, main accused Lakhtej Singh threatened the said businessman via calling through different virtual numbers and started to make ransom calls.
Apart from this, said businessman had also received two other extortion calls one of which from District Kota Rajasthan based mobile number which was found to be used by Rakesh Kumar Sau alias Rakesh s/o Ram Kishan Sau Naya Pura Bus Stand Sanjay colony Kota PS Naya Pura District Kota Rajasthan who has been arrested in this case and other call received on 12.12.2022 through a virtual number which was suspected to be made by Amandeep Purewal s/o Charanjit Singh r/o Malri PS Nakodar District Jalandhar presently residing in USA. Police remand of four days of said arrested accused was obtained from ld. court from which investigation on various aspects of the case is carried out.
