Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority celebrated the 73rd Constitution Day on 26th of November 2022, by organizing a series of activities across UT of J&K.The Legal Services Institutions started the celebration of the day by reading the preamble of the Constitution at all the headquarters of Legal Services Institutions in the UT of J&K.

The Preamble was read by the Chairpersons DLSAs (Pr. Dist. and Session Judges) wherein all the officers/officials of the court and DLSA officers participated.District Legal Services Authority Samba, in collaboration with Dogra Law College Samba, organized a Seminar on “India – the Mother of Democracy”.

Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Justice Rabstan stated that the theme of this year’s Constitution Day is quite apt because the constitution of India is a handwritten document of 90,000 words and its philosophy was everlasting –but its structure and clauses are flexible.

He further underlined that the Constitution’s primary guardians are the people of India. They are the one who have sovereignty and the Constitution was ratified in their honour.“The Constitution gives the citizen power, but the citizens also give the Constitution power by upholding it, sticking to it, protecting it, and working diligently to increase its significance via words and acts,” Justice Rabstan maintained.

He further said the Constitution belongs to everyone and to no one in particular. Gulchain Singh Charak, Chairman, Dogra Education Trust, during his discourse stated that it is because of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters that we got this living document -the Constitution of India and it is for the younger generation now to uphold the same.

He also thanked the J&K Legal Services Authority and Justice Tashi Rabstan for choosing the Dogra Law College as the venue for this Seminar of great importance.  M. K. Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K LSA while speaking on the occasion stated that the fascinating fact about the Indian constitution is that it was enacted at the time of independence, when India faced enormous challenges, including safeguarding the lives and welfare of millions of people who had been displaced by the partition.

In the face of violence and uncertainty, the Constituent Assembly drafted a Constitution that reflects the nation's exceptional diversity, spanning languages, races, castes, and classes. Several other nations contributed encouragement and inspiration to the Constituent Assembly during this challenging time.

Ms. Sonia Gupta, PDJ Samba (Chairperson DLSA Samba) while delivering the welcome address gave an overview of the seminar and explained as to how we can say with confidence that India is the mother of democracy.

Sumit Singh Jamwal, LLB 4th Semester, Sh. Abdul Haleem, BA. LLB 7th Semester and. Sachin Verma, LLB 2nd Semester, students of Dogra Law College spoke on the topic of seminar. They were felicitated by the Chief Guest for their enriching discourses and the confidence with which they spoke.

Ms. Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary DLSA Samba delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by  Danish, Student, Dogra Law College. The NCC contingent of the college gave a ceremonial welcome to the Chief Guest.
