As part of Janjatiya Gaurav Saptah (Tribal Week), District Administration Bandipora in collaboration with Tribal Affairs Department J&K and Gujjar & Bakerwal Boys Hostel Bandipora on Tuesday celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas at Mini Secretariat, Bandipora. 

The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed.On the occasion, Cultural events were presented by students of various schools of tribal regions thereby highlighting the Tribal Tradition and Culture.

Speakers threw light on various tribal oriented Government Schemes and role of tribal heroes especially the legendary freedom fighter, Birsa Munda. It was informed that the Tribal Pride Week Celebration is being observed in district Bandipora from 15-22 November which will mark a week-long series of events and Cultural Tribal events showcasing the rich cultural heritage of tribes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the contribution of the Birsa Munda and said that the  purpose of the day is to support and uphold the rights of tribal people and to recognise their contributions.Dr. Owais said, these celebrations will inspire the future generations to acknowledge their identity and take forward their legacy and the conservation of tribal culture, art and rich tribal heritage.

He highlighted the measures taken by the Government for the upliftment of Tribal communities and said that the Government is committed for holistic development and welfare of Tribal people to ensure empowerment of the community at all fronts.

DDC Member, Dr. Ghulam Mustafa deliberated upon the role of various stakeholders in uplifting the tribal community.Social activist Mohd Abdullah Paswal also highlighted the role of tribal youth in preserving tribal and traditional culture. 

Various speakers from the Dard Shina community of Gurez also highlighted the importance of preserving tribal culture and the role of education in uplifting Tribal people. District programme officer NRLM deliberated upon various centrally sponsored schemes under NRLM and representation of tribal people in SHGs under NRLM. 

The programme was attend by DPO Bandipora Mohd Ashraf Hakak, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, ACP Bandipora Syed Altaf Hussain Mosavi, DySP HQ Mohd Shafat officers from District Administration, DDCs, PRI's, students and other concerned.
