Who was Hari Singh Nalwa?
The chief commander of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj, the army of the Sikh Empire, was Hari Singh Nalwa. He was born in 1791 and left for his heavenly abode in 1837. The victories in Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshawar, and Jamrud are credited to him. The Sikh Empire's border was extended by Hari Singh Nalwa beyond the Indus River all the way to the mouth of the Khyber Pass. Jamrud served as the empire's western frontier at the time of his passing.
He held the positions of the governor of Hazara, Peshawar, and Kashmir. For the benefit of the Sikh Empire, he created a mint to aid with tax collection in Peshawar and Kashmir. He has also been known as "Tiger Killer." In 1804, a tiger attacked him while he was on a hunt, killing both him and his horse. He reputedly killed the tiger by himself, barehanded, by tearing it apart from its mouth. His fellow hunters tried to protect him, but he rejected their offers, receiving the name Baghmar (Tiger-Killer). It is uncertain if he was already serving in the military at the time of his commission as a sardar, leading 800 horses and footmen.
But in Sidhu Moosewala’s song Vaar, his attack on Afghans and how they are afraid of Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa have been shown. Sidhu has compared him to a form of famine.
Meanwhile, the song Vaar has been really loved by the fans. The music is quite similar to one of the most popular songs, ‘Mirza’. And Jaswinder Brar, who has also been mentioned in Sidhu Moosewala’s Bambiha Bole, has been known for crooning ‘Mirza’.
Moreover, the first posthumous song, ‘SYL’ by Sidhu Moosewala, has also garnered immense love from the audience. It is considered one of the most controversial songs, and due to that, it has been banned from YouTube two days after its release. But the song has still been surfacing all over the music streaming platform.
However, here’s the link to Sidhu Moosewala’s Vaar:
