As it has been noted, Shiv Sena Leader Sudhir Suri was shot in Amritsar, Punjab during the protest. Now, the news reports have been updated to say that the leader has died in the hospital.
As Suri, the leader of a local group going by the name Shiv Sena, protested outside a temple over a management issue, at least five gunshots were fired, purportedly by a local shopkeeper.
He was being under police protection, but the attacker managed to kill him with at least two shots before he could be taken to a hospital, according to the news reports. The local police commissioner, who did not immediately provide further details, claimed that the attacker was promptly detained and the gun was seized.
Tension-filled texts were being sent and received among residents of the Sikh holy city when he pleaded with the populace to remain calm and resist any communal calls. It is known that Mr. Suri and some of his cronies had a dispute earlier today with some men from the temple administration.
