The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora on Monday organised a day long awareness programme on mental health at Government Girls High School Sumbal to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

The programme was organised in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Sumbal and Education Department, Bandipora under the guidance of Chairman DLSA, Mohammad Ibrahim Wani Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora and supervision of Fariqa Nazir Secretary/ Sub-Judge DLSA Bandipora.

On the occasion  panel lawyer and  Advocate Tasleem Jan and Advocate Gazalla Amin while addressing the gathering said  that this day is celebrated to promote awareness of global mental health and to seek human attention towards Mental Health so that it is treated at par with physical health.  

The speakers  emphasized that mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone and said  people must take all measures  to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society.

During the session, the speakers actively interacted with the students about the unfortunate taboo against discussing issues of mental health in our society and about the labels attached to those who are suffering from mental illnesses.

They encouraged the students to think of new ideas which can help make a change in the present scenario and promote awareness and sensitivity towards the important issue of mental health.At the end, they said that it is necessary to raise awareness on mental issues that are faced by people and also to endorse campaigns that help in eradicating the mental health issues.

The programme was attended by Officers/Officials of the said institution, PLVs, Officials of TLSC Sumbal and other participants.
