On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Prisons Department J&K, in collaboration with Safe Hands Dentistry, Srinagar today conducted a Mega Oral Health awareness camp at Central Jail, here. The camp was organised under, Mission ‘Reaching the Unreached’ with the aim of spreading awareness about importance of Oral Health, especially among prisoners, to inculcate healthy oral health habits and introduce preventive dentistry to reduce the overall dental disease burden.

The camp was attended by prisoners and all assistance was provided by Prisons Staff. The Medical/ Para medical staff (posted in the jail) not only attended but they were also provided inputs /training, on latest know how, procedure (on dental health) so as to further their knowledge base, under T.o.T. programme.

On the directions of Director General Prisons, J&K- H. K. Lohia, such Oral Health awareness camps will be held in all valley based jails, in the month of October, 2022, to support the Prisons Department’s endeavour to provide better health care facilities to prison inmates.

One of the major health care challenges in prisons is maintaining/promoting oral health/hygiene among inmates and with programs like this we hope to overcome this challenge meaningfully. Prisons Department appreciates the initiative taken by Dr. Tiekka Rashid (Safe Health Dentistry, Srinagar) and his team to reach out to the prisoners and underprivileged like orphans, specially-abled, old aged people and those in need.
